Our Board of Directors serves as the guiding force behind LSRS, bringing together dedicated volunteers who shape our organization’s future through strategic planning and policy development. Meeting monthly, these committed individuals also participate in various committees, ensuring our society continues to meet the evolving needs of Langley’s senior community.

We welcome inquiries from community members interested in joining our Board. If you’re passionate about making a difference in seniors’ lives and have skills to contribute to our mission, we’d love to hear from you.

President

Loretta Solomon

Loretta Solomon has been a resident of Langley for over 30 years. She has 3 children, 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, many of them raised in Langley. Loretta has a Bachelor of Science Degree and Masters Degree in Nursing. From UBC and has worked in healthcare for 35 years, starting her career as a Pediatrics Nurse and Head Nurse at Surrey Memorial Hospital. She was employed as Director of Nursing at Sunnyhill Health Centre for Children and Director of Pediatrics Neurosciences Program at BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver. Prior to retirement Loretta worked as the Executive Director for Surrey Memorial Hospital and Delta Hospital and Program Director for Maternal, Neonatal, Child and Youth Planning for Fraser Health. Loretta has been a volunteer at LSRS both as a gardener and Board Member. She is passionate about ensuring the voices of seniors are heard in planning services and programs that impact their lives.

Vice President

Sherry Tingley

Sherry Tingley’s parents grew up in Langley and she has lived in Milner for 30 years! Sherry was a cardiac surgical/hospice nurse and has been an LSRS volunteer for 15 years. You’ll see her at special events and as an LSRS Ambassador.

Treasurer

Lorna Dysart

Lorna has a diploma in Municipal Government Administration and is a certified Parliamentarian. She has managed her own consulting firm advising private and public corporations on municipal government affairs. She has held the positions of Assistant City Clerk with the City of Kelowna, and the Vancouver Public Library, Chief Election Officer for Whistler, BC and most recently the Chief Administrative Officer for the Village of Belcarra, as well as numerous other positions.

Secretary

Marlene Best

Marlene Best was a resident of Langley for 26 years and is now semi-retired and lives in south Surrey. While living in Langley Marlene and her husband owned and operated a major floriculture greenhouse and raised their family there and was involved in many aspects of their community such as church, school and agriculture. Marlene has a degree in urban and regional planning and is a Registered Professional Planner with over 43 years of experience having develop managed hundreds of sites in the lower mainland and British Columbia. She also holds a Masters in Business Administration and has held numerous executive positions in the land development industry. Giving back is a core value of Marlene’s having sat as a director of non profit societies, agencies and industry associations for over two decades. She looks forward to volunteering at LSRS and assisting in ensuring the needs of seniors in Langley are met through services and programs.

Director

Michael Chang

Michael Chang immigrated to Canada with his family in 2006, and Langley has been his only home since the first day in Canada. He has a wonderful wife and 2 children. Michael has been an excellent leader in the Korean community and others, especially in senior care and multicultural aspects. He is currently serving as Honourary Ambassador of Seoul Metropolitan Council and Gapyeong County, the president of Korean Veterans Association, Chief Advisor of Korean Business Association of BC, director of the Arboretum and Botanical Society of Langley, advisor of Port Moody Youth Orchestra and Co-Chair of Multicultural Drum Festival. He also formally served as Multicultural Advisory Council of BC, a board member of New Vista Society ( Care home and senior housing ) for 6 years, Honourary Ambassador of Pyeong Chang Winter Games in 2018, director of Langley Community Music School and Vice president of Korean National Unification Advisory Council. Michael cares so much about the well-being of seniors and vulnerable friends in our community.

David Chapates

David has a Master of Business Administration degree and has chosen Langley as his new home in early retirement. David has family who have lived in the Lower Mainland since the 1970’s including an older sister here in Langley. He comes to us with a lengthy career background in technology and software Product, Program and People management and looks forward to contributing to the continued success of the LSRS. David has already begun volunteering with LSRS as the Co-Chair on the planning committee of this year’s successful Langley Pride Day event held at the LSRS on August 9th, 2025. He is looking forward to joining the Board and getting to learn more about LSRS and how he can make a positive difference in Langley.
