January 2015 Volunteer Orientation / Training Sessions

January 2015

Dear Volunteer:

Thank you for considering joining us as a volunteer here at the Langley Seniors Resource Centre. You may have already had an interview, you may not. These will be scheduled after training. Your future contribution and dedication will be greatly appreciated.

Each volunteer position is highly valued by staff and by the many seniors who are members of our Centre’s Programs. We work as a team in fulfilling the mission and vision of the Langley Seniors Centre.

In the Orientation / Training sessions, an overview will be given of the volunteer opportunities throughout the Centre. The Outreach and Better at Home Programs will be explained in more detail as this is valuable information for all volunteers to know. We will include a section on recognizing the signs that a senior is becoming isolated or is a victim of elder abuse. As well, we will look at the community resources available for seniors. An important component of our training is the development of communication and listening skills.

The Orientation / Training dates have been scheduled as follows:

All sessions will be held at the Langley Seniors Recreation and Resource Centre. Check at the Front Desk as to which room. We would ask that you attend all five sessions if possible.

Please call or email to let me know if you will be able to join us for the upcoming Orientation / Training sessions. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Janice McTaggart

Burst pipe floods Senior Centre

The Centre will be undergoing extensive repairs in the kitchen as most of the water damage was in the kitchen and cafeteria. Our main concerns are the food in the fridges and freezer worth thousands of dollars. Also, affected is our Catering which is an important revenue source for our Society that helps to keep our dining room cafe prices affordable to seniors and the society.
